TT001: TOKO TEH TAPE
One of my favorite things we did at Apa Kabar was the monthly producer meetup. Producers of all genres would show up to make music and share their work while we sat on the floor with our tea mugs. We were fortunate to share a space with Super-Electric Records, as Bob (owner + curator) made his genre-spanning record collection available for producers to sample, flip, and mangle. An endless supply of sounds that gave way to an endless stream of creativity. Those records were the building blocks for boom-bap instrumentals, mind-bending breakbeats, and all sorts of left-field experiments. It was always crazy to hear what people would cook up. There was so much good music made over the course of those meetups, and I felt that at least some of this music had to be heard outside of the tea house walls. So here we are.
Apa Kabar and Super-Electric Records are proud to present the TOKO TEH TAPE (translated: TEA SHOP TAPE). A compilation of tracks made at the monthly meetups, and the first release on TOKO TAPE.
The tea house no longer exists in its physical form, but this tape is proof that we were there in that room. An artifact that represents the things we made and the people we brought together. I am extremely proud of this tape and all the producers who showed up and did their thing month after month.
